The Vernadsky National Library building spans 27 floors across 35,700 square meters, housing more than 15 million items within its research facilities.
Founded in 1918 by Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi, the library moved to Ufa during World War II and returned to Kyiv in 1944 to preserve its collections.
The library maintains the most extensive collection of Slavic writing, including the 13th-century Orsha Gospel featuring 300 illustrations of flowers and animals.
The institution exchanges materials with 1,500 academic centers across 80 countries and receives between 160,000 to 180,000 new items each year.
The library contains five specialized institutes focusing on manuscript studies, book research, biographical documentation, archival preservation, and library science.
