Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Fortress, Medieval fortress in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukraine
The fortress extends over 9 hectares with limestone walls reaching 5 to 15 meters in height and encompasses 26 defensive towers along its perimeter.
The site originated as a Greek colony named Tyras in 600 BC, later developing into a fortified settlement under Moldavian rule during the 13th century.
The fortress architecture reflects influences from multiple civilizations, including Greek, Roman, Moldavian, and Ottoman design elements throughout its structures.
Visitors can explore four distinct courtyards within the fortress complex, each representing different historical periods and architectural styles from the 13th to 15th centuries.
The fortress walls contain ten mysterious stone cores embedded within their structure, which have sparked discussions among historians about their purpose and origin.
