Crimean Ethnographic Museum, Ethnographic museum in Simferopol, Ukraine.
The Crimean Ethnographic Museum in Simferopol holds more than 11,000 objects that document the different ethnic groups who have inhabited the peninsula across centuries. The collection includes crafts, garments, and everyday items from various regions and periods that show how these communities shaped their material world.
The museum was founded in 1992 to document and preserve the cultural traditions of the various ethnic groups living in the Crimean region. It emerged from the need to safeguard knowledge about the peninsula's diverse settlement history for future generations.
The exhibits display traditional garments, implements, and household objects that show how Crimean Tatar communities and other ethnic groups lived their daily lives. Walking through the rooms, visitors see firsthand the practical skills and aesthetics that shaped these cultures over time.
The museum is located on Pushkin Street in central Simferopol and offers guided tours as well as educational programs for individual visitors and school groups. The layout of the exhibition allows visitors to explore the collections at their own pace or follow a guided presentation.
The building still displays a Soviet-era commemorative plaque that reflects its earlier purpose before being converted into a museum. This physical trace of the past shows how the use of spaces changed over time.
