Muromets island, Kyiv

Muromets Island is a recreational area along the Dnipro River in Kyiv spanning around 780 hectares with numerous trails through green spaces. The site features sports facilities, maintained pathways, and designated areas for outdoor activities along the riverbank.

The territory became connected to the mainland when the Chertoroysky channel was blocked, turning the former island into a peninsula accessible to visitors. This physical change made the area easier to reach and allowed its development as a recreational zone.

The island bears the name of Ilya Muromets, a legendary hero in Ukrainian folk tradition said to have protected this land from dark forces. This connection to local mythology shapes how many visitors experience and understand the space.

The area is accessible from the northern shore via the Northern Bridge and offers activities like cycling, wakeboarding, kayaking, and beach volleyball. Visitors should bring appropriate clothing for outdoor pursuits and plan their visit according to weather conditions.

A memorial garden on the grounds contains fifteen distinct sections each representing specific plant varieties such as sycamore, Thunberg barberry, and English oaks. This botanical collection showcases different regional landscapes.
