Яворовский карьер, Artificial lake in Yavoriv, Ukraine
Yavorovsk Quarry Lake is an artificial lake near the town of Yavoriv in western Ukraine, formed from an abandoned clay pit. The water has a noticeable blue tint, and the forested shoreline features designated areas for swimming and water activities.
Clay was extracted here in the early 20th century to supply the region with building materials, leaving a large open pit behind. Once the operations stopped, the pit gradually filled with water and the site was later opened for recreation.
On warm weekends, people gather along the shore to swim, picnic, and spend time outdoors in a relaxed setting. The lake has become a go-to spot for day trips, drawing visitors from Yavoriv and nearby towns throughout the summer.
The lake is most comfortable to visit between June and August, when the water is warm and facilities are in use. Stick to the marked swimming zones and check the weather before you go, especially if you plan to spend time on the water.
The blue color of the water is not treated or added but comes naturally from the minerals found in the surrounding rock. Many visitors are caught off guard by how vivid the color looks in person, since it can appear almost unreal on first sight.
