Dzerzhynka

Dzerzhynka is an industrial settlement located within Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, characterized by red iron oxide-rich soils resulting from extensive mining and ore processing activities throughout the region.

Established around 1881 during the late 19th century industrial expansion, Dzerzhynka developed as a direct result of the growth of the Kryvyi Rih Iron-ore Basin and railway construction linking it to the Donets Basin.

The settlement reflects the diverse ethnic makeup typical of Kryvyi Rih, with Ukrainians forming the majority alongside Russian and smaller ethnic groups, hosting local cultural institutions such as community centers and Ukrainian Orthodox churches.

Located approximately 50 kilometers south of Kryvyi Rih's city center, Dzerzhynka is accessible through regional roads connected to the city's transit network, with infrastructure including residential housing and energy facilities supporting metallurgical operations.

The area remains a key point in Ukraine's iron ore supply chain, with several active mines and processing plants operating within its boundaries, maintaining strategic importance for the national steel industry despite ongoing geopolitical challenges.
