Шелеховское озеро, Protected lake in Sumy Oblast, Ukraine

The lake forms a horseshoe shape within a forest setting, covering 7 hectares of land north of Mezhyrich village in Lebedyn district.

The lake emerged during the Ice Age through tectonic processes, making it as ancient as Lake Baikal, Lake Ladoga, Lake Onega, and Lake Victoria.

The name of the lake connects to Cossack Captain Selekhovskiy who settled in this region during the 17th century with migrating Cossacks.

The northern part contains numerous springs with perch and pike, while the southern section features muddy waters with crucian carp and loaches.

A small island sits within the lake, connected to the shore by a bridge, surrounded by birch, willow, oak, and pine trees.
