Synagogue in Volodymyr-Volynskyi

Synagogue in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, Jewish religious building from 1801 in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, Ukraine.

The Synagogue in Volodymyr-Volynskyi was a prayer house built in 1801 on the northeastern side of the city, displaying typical features of Eastern European Jewish architecture. The structure was distinguished by solid construction and served as a significant religious facility throughout its existence.

The building was constructed in 1801 and served the Jewish community as the main prayer house for over a century. The community was displaced during World War II, and the synagogue was demolished in 1950.

The synagogue served as a gathering place for the Jewish community and a visible expression of their significant presence in the city. It shaped religious and social life for generations before the community was displaced during wartime.

The building no longer stands today, but visitors can locate the former site in the city center through local guides or historical markers. The location offers insights into the city's Jewish past, even though only the memory of the structure remains.

The synagogue's walls were built so robustly that heavy military vehicles were required to demolish the building in 1950. This exceptional strength reflects the careful craftsmanship and materials chosen during its original construction.
