Oronsay, Tidal island in Inner Hebrides, Scotland

Oronsay connects to Colonsay through a sand and mud flat causeway called An Tràigh, which emerges during low tide periods.

Archaeological excavations on the island uncovered evidence of Mesolithic human settlements dating back to 4600 BC, with inhabitants relying on marine resources.

The medieval Augustinian priory, established around 1380, features preserved monumental sculptures and Celtic crosses that reflect the religious heritage.

Visitors must check tide schedules at Scalasaig post office before crossing the 2.5-mile path from Colonsay to reach the island.

The island maintains a population of pure European dark bees, protected by legislation since 2013 to prevent genetic mixing with other bee species.
