The Eagle and Child, Literary pub in St Giles, Oxford, England.
The Eagle and Child contains several wooden beams, dark panels, and a dedicated back room called the Rabbit Room for group gatherings.
The establishment dates to 1684 and received its name from the legend of Zeus' eagle carrying Ganymede or from the Earl of Derby's family crest.
The pub served as a regular meeting place for the Inklings literary group, where C.S. Lewis first shared proofs of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
The Grade II listed building remains temporarily closed for renovations, with plans to convert upper floors into hotel rooms while maintaining the pub structure.
University College owned this property as part of their endowment since the 17th century before selling it to St John's College in 2003.
