The mountain received its name in recognition of Harvard University during the nineteenth century exploration and mapping of the American West.
The mountain belongs to the Collegiate Peaks, a group of summits named after prestigious educational institutions in the United States.
The North Cottonwood Creek trailhead leads to a 13.6-mile round trip journey with an elevation gain of 4,530 feet to reach the summit.
The Horn Fork Valley near Mount Harvard contains five separate peaks exceeding 14,000 feet in elevation within a concentrated geographical area.
