Bakke bridge, Heritage suspension bridge in Flekkefjord Municipality, Norway
Bakke bridge is a steel suspension crossing over the Sira river in Flekkefjord Municipality. The structure spans approximately 53 meters with two stone towers supporting the span, carrying traffic from Moi toward Sira.
Construction took place between 1800 and 1824, and the crossing received protected heritage status in 1959. This designation recognized its structural importance and role in southern Norway's infrastructure development.
The structure reflects the early engineering approaches of Norwegian builders and served as a vital crossing point for local communities. The stone towers and steel cables remain visible landmarks that define the landscape today.
Access comes via Fylkesveg 4208, with one-way traffic flowing from Moi to Sira. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the structure, though caution is needed due to active traffic and the narrow deck.
The 1931 Monte Carlo Rally route passed over this bridge and the Tronåsen passage before highway E39 was constructed. This shows how vital the crossing was for connecting the region during that era.
