Nidaros Cathedral, Gothic cathedral in Trondheim, Norway

The Nidaros Cathedral stands as the world's northernmost medieval cathedral, constructed with soapstone and featuring both Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements.

Construction of the cathedral started in 1070 over Saint Olav's burial site and continued for 230 years until its completion around 1300.

The cathedral serves as Norway's national sanctuary where Norwegian monarchs receive their traditional consecration and royal blessings.

Visitors can access the cathedral from Monday to Friday between 9:00 and 18:00, Saturday from 9:00 to 14:00, and Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00.

During summer months, visitors can climb 172 steps up the cathedral tower to reach an observation point overlooking Trondheim.
