Jakta, Mountain summit in Sunnmørsalpene, Norway
Jakta is a 1,588-meter (5,210-foot) summit in the Sunnmørsalpene range, positioned on the ridge between Hornindalsvatnet lake and Norangsfjorden fjord. The peak offers views across multiple valleys and surrounding mountain terrain in Møre og Romsdal county.
British mountaineers first reached this summit in 1896, establishing the beginning of recorded climbs in the region. The ascent was subsequently documented in mountaineering publications from that era.
The mountain stands as a natural landmark in Norwegian mountaineering traditions, with its name and presence documented in the 1953 publication Rock Climbs in Sunnmøre.
The main route begins from Ålesund heading south on E39, then connects via RV60 toward the Magerholm-Ørsneset ferry and continues to the Norangsdal trailhead. Climbers should plan for alpine conditions and bring proper mountain gear regardless of season.
From its summit, climbers can observe Store Skagastølstind and neighboring mountains over 100 kilometers to the southeast across the Norwegian landscape.
