Drammen Bridge, Road bridge in Drammen Municipality, Norway.
The Drammen Bridge is a road bridge over the Drammenselva river in Drammen, Norway, extending 1892 meters with 41 concrete spans. It provides a maximum water clearance of 11 meters and carries traffic on four lanes split between two parallel structures.
The bridge opened in 1975 with two lanes to handle traffic across the river. Growing vehicle numbers led to the addition of a parallel structure in 2005, doubling its capacity to accommodate modern transport demands.
The bridge connects neighborhoods on both sides of the river and shapes how people in Drammen move through their city. It has become essential to local life, serving thousands of residents and workers crossing the waterway every day.
The bridge is part of European route E18 and accommodates around 22,000 vehicles daily. Visitors should be aware that four lanes handle the traffic and congestion can occur during peak commuting hours.
During the 2006 renovation, the original rectangular pillars were replaced with slender round ones, giving the newer parallel section a unified appearance. This design change made both bridge systems visually consistent despite being built decades apart.
