Hadsel Bridge, Cantilever road bridge in Hadsel Municipality, Norway.
The Hadsel Bridge is a road bridge made of prestressed concrete that spans across the Langøysundet strait, joining the islands of Langøya and Børøya. It stretches more than 1000 meters with 27 concrete segments that arch across the water in sections.
Construction of this bridge was completed in 1978 as part of a wider effort to link several islands in the Vesterålen region. Its opening represented a major step forward in the transportation infrastructure of northern Norway.
The bridge replaced the traditional ferry service between Sandnes and Stokmarknes, marking a shift in transportation methods for local communities.
The bridge is traveled via Norwegian County Road 82 and has a clearance height of around 30 meters for ships. It remains open to traffic year-round and provides safe passage in standard road conditions.
The structure uses prestressed concrete throughout, which makes it appear lighter despite its substantial size. The main span extends roughly 150 meters, showing the engineering effort needed for such a project.
