Høstutstillingen, Annual art exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, Norway
Høstutstillingen is a national art exhibition held at Kunstnernes Hus that fills several floors with paintings, sculptures, graphics, textiles, photographs, and digital installations from Norwegian artists. The show displays work across many artistic media and styles throughout the building.
The exhibition was founded in 1882 as Kunstnernes Utstilling and emerged as a protest movement against institutional control over annual art shows in Christiania. It established itself as an independent forum separate from these official structures.
The exhibition displays contemporary Norwegian art through an open submission process where artists from Norway and Norwegian artists abroad can participate. Visitors encounter diverse creative perspectives and artistic approaches that reflect how current artists in the country choose to express themselves.
The exhibition runs from September to October each year with artwork selected by a national jury of experts from various artistic fields. You should allow several hours to walk through all the floors at a comfortable pace.
The exhibition attracts a large number of artists submitting work, though only a smaller portion of submissions gets selected for display. This selective process makes being included a notable achievement for participating artists.
