Steinkjer Church, Modern basilica in Steinkjer Municipality, Norway
Steinkjer Church is a modern basilica constructed from white concrete with a square entrance front and a 38-meter bell tower. The interior features white brick walls and red brick flooring, with capacity for up to 600 worshippers.
The church was built in 1965 after two previous structures at the site were destroyed. The first church dating to 1865 burned down in 1900, while the second from 1902 was damaged during World War II in 1940.
The eleven stained glass windows created by Jakob Weidemann fill the interior with colored light and religious imagery. A large crucifix by Sivert Donali serves as the focal point of the worship space.
The church is located in central Steinkjer and is easily accessible on foot. It serves the local community within the Diocese of Nidaros and is generally open to visitors.
The ceiling design mirrors the cross-section of a church bell and is supported by dark-stained pine columns. This architectural detail connects traditional bell-making craft with modern construction.
