Vennesla Library and Culture House, Public library and cultural center in Vennesla, Norway.
Vennesla Library and Culture House is a two-story building combining library and cultural spaces across approximately 1900 square meters. The interior is defined by 27 prominent wooden arches that stretch from floor to ceiling, creating a distinctive structural pattern throughout.
The Municipality of Vennesla initiated this project in 2005 to create a central cultural hub by linking an existing community building with a new learning center. This merger of established and new spaces allowed the town to strengthen its cultural infrastructure.
The facility serves as a community gathering place where people browse books, attend concerts, watch films, or simply meet with others. The open design encourages both focused study and social interaction throughout the day.
The building contains reading areas with numerous seats, a coffee shop, open meeting spaces, and classrooms for courses and events of all kinds. Visitors can easily find different functional areas since the layout is straightforward and accessible.
The wooden arch structures were made from glue-laminated timber, a notable feature of modern Norwegian architecture. As visitors walk through the building, these arches create a visual pattern that shifts from every angle and perspective.
