Dalsfjorden, Fjord in Volda Municipality, Norway
Dalsfjorden is a fjord in Volda Municipality that stretches northward, bordered by steep mountains on both sides. The peaks rise between 600 and 800 meters high, framing the water in a narrow valley.
The fjord was the center of its own municipality from 1924 until it merged with Volda in 1964. This shift ended nearly 40 years of local independence in the area.
Small villages along the fjord keep fishing and maritime traditions alive in daily life. The communities here are deeply connected to the water and what it provides.
County Road 40 connects the settlements around the fjord and makes the area easy to reach. Hiking in the mountains and water activities are possible throughout the year.
The fjord reaches depths of 209 meters below sea level in its deepest spots. This depth supports a variety of marine life in the cold, clear water.
