Tangen Dyrepark, Animal park in Stange Municipality, Norway.
Tangen Dyrepark is a zoo in Stange Municipality, Norway, housing animals from both Nordic and exotic regions across a natural landscape. Pathways connect the different enclosures and viewing areas, guiding visitors through the grounds at their own pace.
The zoo started out as Klæbu Zoo in Trondheim before moving to its current location in Tangen, where it first opened under the name Amadeus Zoo. In 2014, it took on its present name, Tangen Dyrepark.
Visitors can buy small bags of animal feed at the entrance and hand-feed animals such as macaques, marmosets, zebras, and camels. This direct contact sets the place apart from a typical zoo where animals are only watched from behind a fence.
The park sits on natural terrain, so sturdy footwear is a good idea as paths can be uneven, especially after rain. Arriving early in the day generally means the animals are more active and the grounds are less crowded.
A gibbon named Amadeus appeared in a Norwegian children's television series and gave the zoo its former name when it was still called Amadeus Zoo. The gibbon's fame helped put the park on the map for families across Norway.
