Langedrag Naturpark, Animal park and mountain farm in Nore og Uvdal Municipality, Norway
Langedrag Naturpark is an animal park in Nore og Uvdal Municipality, Norway, set on a mountain plateau at around 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) above sea level. The grounds are divided into sections, each housing different species of Norwegian wildlife and farm animals in open enclosures.
The park opened in November 1960 and gradually grew from a small local operation into a destination known across Norway. Over the decades, the range of animals and activities on offer expanded alongside its growing reputation.
The Norwegian TV show "Vi på Langedrag" on NRK followed daily life at the park and introduced it to a wide audience across the country. Many visitors arrive already familiar with the animals from the show, which gives the visit a personal feel.
The park sits at high altitude on a mountain, so weather can change quickly and warm, waterproof clothing is a good idea regardless of the season. Sturdy footwear is also worth wearing, as the terrain can be uneven, especially when the ground is wet.
Langedrag is one of the few places in Norway where visitors can see wolves at close range, as these animals are rarely spotted in the wild. The park also offers dog sledding in winter, which is an uncommon activity to find within a wildlife park setting.
