Kapp Melkefabrikk, Heritage site and building complex in Kapp, Norway
The Kapp Melkefabrikk is a historic dairy factory building on the shore of Lake Mjøsa near Kapp. The complex now holds exhibition spaces, a museum, and facilities for art and cultural activities.
The factory was founded in 1891 and became the first producer of canned condensed milk under the Viking Melk brand. It was later acquired by Nestlé before being converted into a cultural center.
The site served generations of local workers and remains a landmark in the community's identity. Today artists and cultural educators use the spaces to teach and exhibit their work.
The site sits right on the water and is easily reached by boat, as the paddle steamer Skibladner makes regular stops there. Visitors should know that some areas may be reserved for scheduled events or classes.
The building houses an art school that teaches over 300 students each year, making it a vibrant center for artistic education. This school draws students from across the region and shapes the cultural life of the place.
