Movila lui Burcel, Nature reserve in Vaslui County, Romania
Movila lui Burcel is a protected nature reserve on the Moldavian Plateau covering about 12 hectares and home to around 290 plant species. The site sits near the Vaslueț River at an elevation of about 390 meters (1,280 feet) and is known for its varied plant life.
The area received official protection status in 1973 and was later designated as a site of national interest through legislation in 2000. These conservation measures were put in place to safeguard the rare plant species found in the region.
The name comes from the Purcel noble family who settled in the Codăiești area, with the family name transforming to Burcel during the 1800s.
Access is provided via National Road DN24, and visitors should stay on designated paths and avoid removing any plants. The best time to visit is during the vegetation growth season when the most species are visible.
The site is home to several rare plant species that are otherwise found only across much larger areas, drawing researchers from across the region. This botanical concentration makes it an important study location for understanding the flora of the Moldavian Plateau.
