Ekolsund Castle

The castle consists of two substantial wings featuring late baroque architectural elements, with each section showcasing different design periods and construction techniques.

Originally constructed in the 14th century, the estate passed through royal ownership in 1542 and served as a residence for Princess Sophia of Sweden from 1578 to 1611.

The castle's transformation from royal residence to private estate reflects the changing social structure of Swedish nobility through different historical periods.

Visitors can access the castle grounds and participate in various activities at Ekolsunds slott & Wärdshus, which operates within the historical property.

Crown Prince Gustav III frequently used Ekolsund as his summer residence until 1777, when he acquired Drottningholm Palace after becoming king.
