Elineberg Housing, Residential towers in Helsingborg, Sweden
Elineberg Housing is a residential complex in Helsingborg consisting of six tall towers constructed from yellow brick with vertically aligned windows. The buildings step down along a grassy slope, creating a varied skyline that responds to the site's natural topography.
Danish architect Jørn Utzon designed this residential complex in 1954 after winning a competition held by the city of Helsingborg for district development. The project emerged during a period of significant change in Nordic architecture and urban planning.
The architectural design incorporates strategic orientation for maximum daylight exposure while considering the industrial context and working-class heritage of Helsingborg.
The complex contains 269 rental apartments managed by Rikshem, featuring renovated units with updated kitchens and bathrooms. Visitors can explore the site from public areas and observe how the buildings relate to the surrounding green spaces.
Four of the residential towers received permission in 2009 to install small wind turbines on their rooftops to supply energy to the apartments. This integration of renewable energy was an early step in sustainable housing development in the Nordic region.
