Boč, Mountain summit in eastern Slovenia.
Boč is a mountain summit in eastern Slovenia with two peaks, located within the Donačka gora landscape park and covered in dense forest. The higher of the two peaks holds a church and an observation tower, both visible from the valleys below.
The mountain was known as a landmark in the medieval period, and the church on the summit replaced an earlier religious structure. In the middle of the 20th century, the observation tower was added, turning the summit into a destination for hikers.
At the summit stands St. Nicholas Church, a small church that locals visit on feast days and during seasonal walks. The slopes just below it are the only place in Slovenia where the Viennese daffodil grows in the wild.
Several marked trails lead to the summit from different starting villages, so visitors can choose a route based on their energy and time. The climb is demanding and sturdy footwear is strongly recommended, as the forest shade does not fully reduce the effort on steeper sections.
Beneath the summit, the limestone rock contains several karst caves that are not marked on most hiking maps. Some of them can be spotted from the trails by visitors who know where to look, without leaving the marked path.
