Fiľakovo Castle, Medieval fortress in District of Lučenec, Slovakia.
Burg Fileck stands on a volcanic hill and displays multiple fortification walls, stone bastions, and remains of a Renaissance palace complex. The site spans across the terrain with various structures built in different periods.
The fortress was built in the 13th century as a defensive structure against invasions. Later it served as an administrative center under different rulers.
The tower at the center houses objects from different periods of occupation and rule. Visitors can observe how various powers left their marks on the structure and its collections.
The site is reached by a path leading up from below to the castle grounds. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear as the terrain has uneven surfaces.
A cannonball remains partially embedded in the wall of a pentagonal bastion, marking a siege from the 17th century. This trace clearly shows the military past of the site.
