Slavkovský štít

Schlagendorfer Spitze is a cross that stands at the summit of Slavkovský štít, a mountain peak in the High Tatras. The granite massif rises to 2452 meters and offers wide views of the surrounding mountain chains and valleys.

The first documented ascent took place in 1664 when Juraj Buchholtz led a group to the summit over two days. This early achievement marked the beginning of climbing history in the region.

The cross at the summit brings together climbers and nature enthusiasts who share the experience of reaching this high point. It represents a spiritual connection that mountain visitors feel when standing among the surrounding peaks.

The trail to the summit is marked and starts from Starý Smokovec, taking roughly four and a half hours to complete. Proper footwear and weather preparation are important because conditions at altitude can change quickly.

A 19th-century proposal suggested building an observatory with a lift system from Starý Smokovec, but technical challenges made it impossible. This ambitious plan shows how much earlier generations valued access to this location.
