Devínska Kobyla, Summit in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Thebener Kogel is the highest point in Bratislava, rising 514 meters above sea level. From the summit, visitors can view across Austria, Hungary, and the Danube River, while abandoned military bunker ruins stand on the peak.
The summit contains a military missile base built between 1979 and 1983 that housed anti-aircraft missiles during the Cold War. This base was a key strategic point in the defense network of the Warsaw Pact period.
The place draws urban explorers and artists who regularly create new graffiti on the concrete walls of former fortifications. These artworks have turned the abandoned site into an informal creative space where art meets history.
The climb takes about 30 to 45 minutes from Dubravka via Plachého street to Vojenská Cesta, with parking available near the entrance. The terrain is open to access, but can be uneven and muddy, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
The mountain hosts around 234 mushroom species, 110 lichen types, 100 moss varieties, and over 1100 vascular plants within a protected nature reserve. This biological diversity makes it an important ecosystem despite its military past.
