Statue of Maria Theresa in Bratislava, Bronze monument in Bratislava, Slovakia
The statue depicts Maria Theresa seated on her throne, holding a scepter that symbolizes her rule over the Habsburg territories. This bronze reproduction is positioned near Hotel Carlton, restoring a representation of her historical presence in the city.
The original monument was created by sculptor Jan Fadrusz and stood in Bratislava from 1897 until its demolition in 1921 by Czechoslovak legionaries. The current version reconstructs this earlier work that was dismantled following the First World War.
The monument represents Maria Theresa's coronation at Saint Martin's Cathedral in 1741, marking her strong connection with Hungarian nobility.
The monument stands beside Hotel Carlton, which maintains the work. You can easily reach it from the city center and see it from street level.
The monument was reconstructed using historical photographs and surviving fragments from the original work. This recreation demonstrates how artistic techniques can revive lost works from the Habsburg era.
