Šúr, Nature reserve in Senec district, Slovakia
Šúr is a nature reserve in Senec district spanning 655 hectares with swamp alder forests and peat bog meadows. The landscape contains wetland areas and woodland habitats that support diverse plant and animal life.
The reserve received protected status in 1952 following efforts to prevent wetlands from being converted into agricultural land. That decision preserved the natural formations from widespread change.
The Klenoty Šúra educational trail includes six stations where visitors learn about the habitats and ecosystems that shape this landscape. Each station reveals how the local environment supports diverse plant and animal communities.
The site is best explored on foot using marked trails to avoid disturbing the ecosystems. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring rain-resistant clothing since the ground is often wet.
The Panónsky Háj section contains solitary oak trees that represent remnants of one of the last original forest formations in central Europe. These individual trees show what the landscape once looked like before modern changes.
