Hat Yai, Administrative district in Songkhla, Thailand

Hat Yai is an administrative district in Songkhla province spanning a large area that includes the city center, multiple sub-districts, and waterfront zones along Songkhla Lake. The territory encompasses both densely built urban areas and quieter residential sections.

The area grew from a small village called Khok Samet Chun into a major transport hub after the construction of southern railway lines in 1928. This rail connection transformed the region into a significant commercial and transportation center.

Prince Songkhla University anchors the district as a major educational center for the southern region. The campus brings together students and teachers from across Thailand, creating a young and active community presence.

The international airport connects the region to major cities across Thailand and neighboring countries, serving several million passengers annually. This excellent transport access makes it easy for visitors to arrive and travel within the area.

The district houses one of Thailand's largest reclining Buddha statues at Wat Hat Yai Nai temple, which measures 35 meters in length. This remarkable sculpture stands as a distinctive local landmark and attracts both pilgrims and travelers.
