Kamphaeng Phet, Administrative province in central Thailand.
Kamphaeng Phet is an administrative province in central Thailand that follows the course of the Ping River. The eastern areas consist of flat terrain, while the western sections rise into the mountains of the Dawna Range.
During the 14th century, the area served as a defense point for the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya kingdoms under the earlier name Chakangrao. The fortifications protected trade routes between the two powerful centers.
The provincial emblem displays protective walls with diamond symbols, while the areca nut palm represents the official provincial tree of the region.
The province is divided into eleven administrative districts, each with its own local authorities. Travelers exploring different landscapes should keep in mind that distances between flat areas and mountain regions can be considerable.
The region is known for growing kluai khai bananas, a small aromatic variety. These fruits are harvested in local plantations and exported to other parts of the country.
