Khlong Lan National Park, National park in Kamphaeng Phet Province, Thailand
Khlong Lan National Park is a forested protected area in the northern part of Kamphaeng Phet Province, in the lower north of Thailand. The terrain is hilly and covered with dense tropical forest crossed by several rivers and streams that feed a number of waterfalls.
The area was officially declared a national park in December 1985, after years of logging had reduced much of the original forest cover. The protected status put an end to commercial timber extraction and allowed the forest to recover over the following decades.
The park takes its name from the Khlong Lan river that runs through it, and the same name is shared by the nearby district and town. Along the road leading to the main waterfall, small stalls sell local forest produce, giving visitors a glimpse of how communities around the park live off the land.
The park is easiest to reach from the town of Khlong Lan, which serves as the main gateway to the entrance. Simple bungalows are available near the park office, and trails are more accessible during the dry season when paths and waterfall areas are less slippery.
The main waterfall, Namtok Khlong Lan, drops about 330 feet (100 meters) into a wide pool where visitors can swim, and it runs year-round, even in the dry season. Its short walk from the parking area makes it one of the few large waterfalls in the country that most people can reach without a long hike.
