Thi Lo Su waterfall, Waterfall in Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary, Thailand

Thi Lo Su is a multi-tiered waterfall within a protected wildlife sanctuary, spread across different elevation levels throughout thick tropical forest. The water descends in a dramatic formation, creating distinct sections that visitors encounter at different points along the landscape.

For centuries, this area served as a natural boundary separating different ethnic groups in Tak Province. This geographical role shaped how various communities used and viewed the landscape.

The Karen communities living in the region have developed a deep connection to this place through generations of living alongside the forest and its water. You can sense this relationship in how they move through the landscape and care for its resources.

Reaching the waterfall involves a substantial hike through forest terrain, so wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water for the journey. The path becomes slippery and challenging, especially after rain, so take your time navigating the slopes.

During the rainy season, this place transforms into Thailand's largest waterfall by water volume, with multiple natural swimming pools forming at different levels. This seasonal change makes the experience quite different depending on when you visit.
