Taksin Maharat National Park, National park in Tak Province, Thailand

Taksin Maharat is a national park in Tak Province, with the Thanon Thongchai mountain range running through its center. The landscape contains waterfalls, caves, and dense forests spread across roughly 149 square kilometers.

Originally called Ton Krabak Yai, the area received its status as Thailand's 38th national park in 1981. Its renaming to honor King Taksin reflected a significant shift in how the site was recognized and protected.

The park contains traces of historical military routes where armies once moved through the mountains, connecting it to past conflicts that shaped borders between Thailand and Myanmar. Visitors can walk paths that remain important to understanding the region's heritage.

The park sits roughly 26 kilometers west of Tak town with marked trails and camping facilities available throughout. Guided tours through the different ecosystems can be arranged for those wanting structured exploration.

The park shelters an extraordinary krabak tree roughly 700 years old that rises about 50 meters into the air. This giant with a circumference near 16 meters stands as one of Thailand's most remarkable living specimens.
