Description
Sa Kaeo is an administrative province in eastern Thailand made up of nine districts that stretch across forests, mountains, and farmland near the Cambodian border. The region includes both densely wooded protected areas and open plains where rice and other crops grow.
History
The province was established in 1993 when six districts split from Prachinburi Province to form their own administrative unit. This formation makes it one of the youngest provinces in the country.
Culture
Two sacred ponds in a public park near the administrative office carry special meaning in local tradition. The water was once used in Thai coronation ceremonies, and visitors today come to appreciate the calm setting around them.
Practical
The Aranyaprathet district operates active border crossings that facilitate movement between Thailand and Cambodia, used by travelers and traders alike. These crossings open early in the morning and remain accessible through the late afternoon.
