Sa Kaeo, Eastern administrative province in Thailand
Sa Kaeo is an administrative province in eastern Thailand made up of nine districts that stretch across forests, mountains, and farmland near the Cambodian border. The region includes both densely wooded protected areas and open plains where rice and other crops grow.
The province was established in 1993 when six districts split from Prachinburi Province to form their own administrative unit. This formation makes it one of the youngest provinces in the country.
Two sacred ponds in a public park near the administrative office carry special meaning in local tradition. The water was once used in Thai coronation ceremonies, and visitors today come to appreciate the calm setting around them.
The Aranyaprathet district operates active border crossings that facilitate movement between Thailand and Cambodia, used by travelers and traders alike. These crossings open early in the morning and remain accessible through the late afternoon.
The northern section includes protected areas within Pang Sida and Ta Phraya National Parks, which preserve a variety of wildlife and natural formations. Hiking trails run through these parks, allowing visitors to discover forested sections and waterfalls that lie away from main routes.
