Rajjaprabha Dam, Hydroelectric power station in Khao Phang, Thailand.
Rajjaprabha Dam is a hydroelectric power station in Khao Phang with three turbines generating electricity. The structure extends 761 meters across the landscape and creates a large reservoir behind it.
Construction began in 1982 and required the relocation of families from Ban Chiew Lan village. This project marked a major shift in how the region managed water resources and power generation.
The name Rajjaprabha means 'light of the kingdom' in Thai, a title given during the official opening ceremony in 1987.
The dam is located in Surat Thani Province and supports irrigation for farmland across the region. Visitors should plan their visit during the drier season for better accessibility and clearer views.
The reservoir created behind the dam reaches depths around 90 meters and houses wildlife sanctuaries protecting tigers and elephants. This deep water body has become an important habitat for various species in the region.
