Baoshan Reservoir, Water reservoir in Baoshan, Taiwan
Baoshan Reservoir is an embankment dam standing 34.5 meters high and stretching 260 meters across rolling terrain. The basin holds roughly 5.4 million cubic meters of water and sits at a normal level of 141.6 meters above sea level.
The dam was built between 1981 and 1984 when water demand from Hsinchu City outpaced available supply. The project responded directly to rapid growth in this densely populated region.
The water here sustains one of Taiwan's major technology hubs, shaping the region's economic life in ways visitors might not immediately recognize.
The area around the dam is accessible with viewpoints overlooking the water and surrounding landscape. Visitors should come prepared for changing weather and wear comfortable shoes for walking the paths.
The reservoir works alongside a second dam structure located nearby, creating a backup system for water reliability. This dual arrangement ensures supply continues smoothly even during maintenance of either facility.
