Bilsk Hill fort, Archaeological site in Poltava Raion, Ukraine
The Bilske Horodyshche settlement spans 3,868 hectares along the Vorskla River, protected by earthen walls and moats extending 35 kilometers.
Dating from the 6th to 3rd century BC, the Scythian fortified settlement contains three separate areas connected by defensive structures.
The inhabitants maintained trade connections with ancient states near the Black Sea coast while practicing agriculture, animal husbandry, and metalworking.
Excavations at the site, which began in 1906, continue to reveal artifacts that document the daily activities of the Scythian civilization.
The settlement features defensive ramparts reaching heights of 12 meters and encompasses numerous burial mounds, including the Skorobir kurhan.
