Shyriaieve, Settlement in Berezivka Raion, Ukraine
Shyriaieve is a small settlement located on the banks of the Velykyi Kuialnyk River in southern Ukraine. The town sits at a modest elevation and serves as a local center for the surrounding rural areas.
Founded in 1795 as Stepanivka, the settlement took its name from landowner Stepan Shyriay and emerged following territorial changes in the region. It developed within the context of Russian expansion in southern Ukraine during that period.
The population of 6,326 residents maintains strong Ukrainian linguistic roots, with Ukrainian being the primary language of communication in the region.
The town is accessible via the M05 highway connecting Kyiv and Odesa, as well as through secondary roads to neighboring communities. These connections make it relatively easy to reach from nearby larger centers.
In January 2024, the settlement underwent a formal administrative reclassification from urban-type to rural status under new national legislation. This change reflected evolving organizational frameworks in the region.
