Rivne Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Rivne Oblast, Ukraine
Rivne Nature Reserve comprises four separate wetland areas located in the Polesia region of northwestern Ukraine. The protected landscapes include marshes, lakes, and forests that form interconnected habitats across the territory.
The earliest protected areas in this region were established starting in 1984, with the entire reserve receiving official status through a Cabinet of Ministers resolution in 2003. This expansion reflected growing recognition of the need to safeguard wetland habitats.
The reserve maintains educational programs connecting local schools with environmental initiatives through organized field trips and scientific observation activities.
Visitors should arrange access in advance with reserve authorities, as the protected status means entry is regulated. The town of Sarny serves as the main gateway for reaching the area.
The reserve shelters hundreds of plant species and over 200 vertebrate species within its wetland areas. Many of these animals and plants are rare or threatened species becoming harder to find elsewhere in Ukrainian nature.
