Plistse shelter, Mountain hut in Gorgany Mountains, Ukraine
Plistse shelter is a mountain hut located at 1457 meters (4780 feet) elevation in the Gorgany Mountains of the Carpathians. The facility has two rooms with wood stoves and basic outdoor facilities to accommodate hikers exploring the surrounding peaks.
The original structure was built in 1934 by the Plai society and was the first mountain shelter of its kind in Ukraine. It suffered damage during wartime but was restored in later decades.
The shelter serves as a gathering place where hikers exchange stories and connect with other travelers exploring the mountains. It represents a hub of mountain culture in the Carpathian region where outdoor enthusiasts meet and share their experiences.
The shelter has no electricity or running water, so visitors should bring their own supplies and water. The best time to visit is from May through October when the mountain is accessible and hiking conditions are safest.
When rebuilt after 2005, volunteers carried building materials up to this remote location on foot. They incorporated salvaged pieces from the original 1934 structure into the new construction.
