Mykulyntsi Castle, Renaissance castle in Mykulyntsi, Ukraine.
Mykulyntsi Castle is a Renaissance fortress that stands on a hill overlooking the Seret River. The complex consists of four wings with thick outer walls and corner towers that were built as defensive positions.
The fortress was built in the middle of the 16th century by Anna Jordanowa from the Sieniawski family. Later it endured a Turkish attack that showed its importance as a strategic post in this region.
The castle's name recalls its first owner, and the rooms show traces of different eras in their structures. Visitors can today see the differences in construction methods and materials that come from various owners and repairs over time.
The site is best explored from the outside, as the inner areas have limited access. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes, as the ground is uneven and the climb up the hill can be challenging.
Embedded in the walls are stones with Hebrew inscriptions near the gate, telling a long history of Jewish life in the region. These inscriptions are silent witnesses to cultural diversity that has been preserved in the stones themselves.
