Mammoth Monument, Kulishivka, Cast iron memorial in Kulishivka, Ukraine.

The Mammoth Monument in Kulishivka is a cast iron memorial standing about 3 meters tall, featuring a truncated pyramid structure set upon a cubic base with inscriptions on its surfaces. Multiple faces of the pedestal carry text documenting the importance of the site.

In 1839, Professor Ivan Kalynychenko from Kharkiv University excavated mammoth bones at this location, requiring six carts to transport them away. The memorial itself was erected in 1841 to commemorate the discovery.

The monument represents a connection to the local past and appears in the district coat of arms as a symbol of heritage. Visitors passing by can sense how the place anchors community identity in the landscape.

The memorial sits on Taras Shevchenko Street in Kulishivka village within Romny district of Sumy region. The location is easy to reach on foot and offers a quiet spot for reflection.

The memorial marks both a paleontological discovery site and a historical border point between Moscow territories and Rzeczpospolita. This dual significance makes the spot where two historical worlds once met.
