Garrick Club, Gentlemen's club in Westminster, London
The Garrick Club is a gentlemen's club in Westminster housed in a Grade II* listed building. Inside, a collection of artworks related to British theatre history fills several rooms.
The club was founded in 1831 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane as a gathering place for theatre enthusiasts. It moved to its current address on Garrick Street in 1864 after the membership grew larger.
The name honors David Garrick, an 18th-century actor who shaped the English stage. Portraits and sculptures of stage performers line the walls and stand in glass cases throughout the rooms.
Access is for members and their guests only, not open to the general public. Those wishing to join need the support of multiple existing members and go through a selection process.
In May 2024, the institution opened its doors to female members, ending a practice that had lasted nearly two centuries. This decision fundamentally changed the makeup of the community and followed years of discussion among the membership.
