Wells Cathedral, Anglican cathedral in Wells, England
The cathedral spans 136 meters in length and rises 55 meters high with a cruciform layout featuring three naves and detailed stone carvings throughout.
Construction began in 1175 under Bishop Reginald de Bohun, making this structure the first entirely Gothic choir construction in European architectural history.
The cathedral maintains daily choral traditions with professional singers performing in the choir, continuing centuries of musical heritage in the medieval space.
The cathedral opens its doors from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with guided tours available throughout the day and special access to the library collection.
The cathedral houses Europe's second oldest working clock, featuring mechanical knights that strike the bells every quarter hour since the 14th century.
