Merlin's Oak, Ancient oak tree site in Carmarthen, Wales.
The oak tree stood at the intersection of Oak Lane and Priory Street, marking a central point in the medieval town layout.
A schoolmaster from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School planted the oak in 1660 to commemorate the return of King Charles II to the throne.
The tree connects to local folklore stating that if Merlin's Oak falls, the town of Carmarthen would face destruction by flooding.
Visitors can find fragments of the original oak tree displayed at Saint Peter's Civic Hall in Nott Square and Carmarthenshire County Museum.
In 1978, after the removal of the dead tree stump for traffic improvements, Carmarthen experienced substantial flooding, validating local predictions.
